Value and Color in Landscapes When: April 7 & 8 Where: The Morton Arboretum, Lisle, IL Time: 9am - 4pm Class Level: Beginners to intermediate. Some experience with drawing is helpful. Class Description: Learn why value is essential to accurately capturing a landscape. In this two-day pastel workshop, visiting artist Laverne Bohlin will show you how to use the correct value and to notice the subtle shifts of value that exist in the landscape. Develop your sensitivity to a color's value so you are better able to separate it from it's hue. Outdoor Painting Workshop in Soft Pastel When: June 9, 10, 11 Where: The Peninsula School of Art, Fish Creek, WI Time: 9:00am - 4:00pm Class Level: Beginner and intermediate. Some experience with pastels is helpful. Class Description: Capture the soft colors of the early summer landscape while painting en plein air at various sites around Fish Creek. Utilizing the unique properties and immediacy of soft pastel, learn how to quickly compose a scene using large masses of color on-site. You will also learn how to make your own pastel support. Painting Trees in Soft Pastel When: June 17 and 18 Where: The Morton Arboretum, Lisle, IL Time: 9aM - 4pm Class Level: Beginners to intermediate. Some experience with drawing is helpful. Class Description: Apply pastel techniques to the challenging subject of trees in the landscapes. Join returning artist Laverne Bohlin and learn to recognize three major design characteristics of trees and how to express them in pastel. Depict a tree's three dimensional form under changing light conditions. Friday's subject will be deciduous trees, and Saturday's subject will be evergreens. You can sign up for one or both classes.
